Jasper 5.0 out of 5 stars I always missed the OS-2 for its versatility. Its design and purpose are humble, but between the color and tone knob, you can dial in a wide range of tones that are truly usable across different rigs. It sounds just as great with a Strat and an AC30 as it would a Les Paul and Fender Deluxe, with the right tweaking. I would say there are too many different tonal possibilities in the color knob to be billed as simple a DS-1 and an SD-1 in the same box. There are more tones here than any other overdrive pedal I've owned. With the drive up high and the color knob fairly low, one can conjure up some near-Marshall or HiWatt sounds.

With the color and drive extremely low, you can produce some Fender Tweed sounds without a harsh high end. I personally like to keep the color knob below 12 o'clock for a warm overdrive sound, but the charm in this pedal is that I've seen other guitarists say they prefer it in the opposite direction. Now for the negative. It's not a noiseless pedal. With the drive knob at 12 o'clock, it emits a pretty harsh buzzing sound compared to other drive pedals. I personally wish it had more output, as I find myself pushing the output past 12 o'clock more than I'd prefer. For this reason, I think it sounds best when pushed with another high-output boost pedal like the BOSS Blues Driver. So overall, I'd say it shouldn't be the ONLY overdrive pedal one should own, but I think everyone should own one at some point. I feel like any guitarist can find a way to use this pedal, which is the greatest compliment I can give to a guitar pedal. This thing rivals my Marshall-style pedals in terms of tone. It just needs more volume. The color knob is what sets it apart - can blend overdrive and distortion as you desire - set about 2 or 3 o'clock sounds really good. It is a little noisy compared to other newer pedals I have, but minor concern for my needs. It was just a little bit more difficult than I guessed it would be but not too hard for someone with some electronics kit building experience. I removed all the parts first and then installed the new ones, as I felt confident I would be able to do it correctly. I understand what the instructions say about checking the pedal with every component installed but I did not want to go through all that trouble. I would not reccomend this as a first project for someone with no soldering experience but if you can solder and desolder joints you should be ok. You will want to use a good iron with a small chisel tip as the solder pads are small.

I expected the led to be a bit brighter based on the description but it works just fine, it came with a clear one that lights yellow but it is not much brighter than the stock red one. Surely looks better with the yellow to me. The pedal is a lot warmer sounding now and it has a LOT more clarity and sweetness. I notice the tone knob seems to affect the overall volume more than it did before but it seems to be a lot more useful in shaping the tone now, this is easily balanced out by the level knob. This mod takes the fizziness out of the pedal and makes it sing a lot better. I have two OS-2 pedals so I am able to A-B this to the unmodded pedal. At first I did not realize how drastic the improvement was until I tried the original pedal. The original really sounds like crap compared to the modded pedal and I did like it a lot before I modded one of them. I don't like the OD or distortion alone if you set the color knob to either extreme but you get some great tones between 9 and 3 o'clock positions. I did not really like either extreme before the mod either to be fair. Considering what this mod takes this pedal from and to, I'd say the guy who put the kit together has a good ear for tone. Again this mod smooths and fattens this pedal up a lot. Great for classic rock. This pretty much covers my needs for now. I will be looking into more of these kits from this supplier. It was well put together and has good color photos for you to use. The instructions are great for someone with just a little basic experience. If you can't understand them you don't need to be attempting to mod your own gear. So I took a used pedal I bought for less than half the cost of a new one and bought this kit, did the install myself and saved a couple hundred dollars from what a comprable sounding boutique pedal would have costed me. All said I enjoyed doing the work myself and I will be looking at more kits from this supplier.I don't check the operation of the pedal after every change.

I feel it is too hard on the wire attachments to the PC board if you are repeatedly plugging and unplugging the pedal to check the sound. Just be methodical removing parts and replacing them. Don't yank on stubborn pieces; just apply the solder wick and reheat. If you can gently pull on the part (other side of the board) while heating, it should come away. A small set of needle-nose pliers or hemostats can be very helpful. Don't overheat the pc board at any rate.this could lift the solder contact away from the board. I chose to leave the original LED (red) in place. This step isn't going to affect the final sound of the pedal. Many musicians prefer the un-modified sound of the Boss pedals, and that is fine. Your ear is the important factor in all of this. With humbuckers this sounds amazing driving a valve amp - especially with the gain backed off and the volume up. This is where it really shines. With the knob anywhere around the middle you get a firm, thumpy palm-muted overdrive with varying degrees of sizzling overtones from the distortion. It reminds me of Clapton's early Marshall sound more than anything, and that's no bad thing. I've also been using a CS-3 compressor ahead of it and this takes it to a whole new level, especially with single coils or lower-output pickups.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. I am having Yamaha electrical guitar and Marshall basic amp.i was searching for such sound which usually hear it in live band shows. While they play leads on higher notes.the kind of sustain.,I want that in my guitar. I bought zoom processor g1x for that but I was getting little noise on that.

Undoubtedly this processer is good only. There are lots of effects in processor, but you like only few.I tried to add new effect patches.still I didn't get satisfaction.this noise was disturbing and I was not getting sustaining sounds (overdrive) while pull off strings. Also on rock band they play leads in distortion mode.It was awesome it's giving proper sustainability on pulloff with overdrive also if you try distortion then u will get the rock sound. Now I get that feel to practice more on leads. Now to all guitar beginners instead of buying cheaper processor buy guitar, amp and this then u can practice more. Then later you can go for costly processor. Telling this as u might be aware before electric guitar, practice on acoustic is manadatory;) Thanks Amazon.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. However, if you're just looking for a quality overdriven tube sound, this might not be your pedal - with such a wide range of sounds it doesn't necessarily excel in any one of them. That said, in none of its settings does the pedal have the dynamics and the well-roundedness of classic tube-like overdrives. Notably, it seems to be a bit lacking in bottom-end and can sound a bit screechy unless played into very clean amps with lots of headroom. Though again, there are youtube tutorials for fairly simple modifications you can make that seem to solve this problem. As usual with boss pedals, its housing is sturdy and well built. All in all, a great pedal I would recommend to almost anyone. Pros Each knob does excatcly and clearly what it is meant to, pedalboard friendly size, good handling.

Cons When battery runs completely dry its tone messes up which is quite embarassing, very digital sound for my taste. Send report Total features sound quality handling Transparent and versatile effect tomatoKetchup, 12.07.2014 The Boss OS-2 gives both overdrive and distortion effects in one single pedal. A large range of sounds and levels of saturation can be achieved with just a few tweaks. Four knobs are available: Volume, to control the output volume (this had to be adjusted at the end to ensure maintaining a similar volume with the effect turned on and off). Tone works like a Low-pass filter, allowing adjustment of the high frequencies. Drive controls the amount of drive for both the overdrive and distortion. Color allows you to adjust the blending of the 2 effects: at extreme left, only the overdrive will be active, at extreme right, only the distortion, and right in the middle the two will be equivalent. I use this effect with a Fender Stratocaster with no Humbuckers. I prefer the distortion part of the pedal, which is quite rich in harmonies for this price. The overdrive sounds ok when blended with disto but it's a bit cheap on it's own. Also, I couldn't manage to get a crunchy sound with it, even with Drive very low the overdrive kicks in pretty quickly, but it might be because of my configuration (I play on a bass amp Orange Crush). On the robustness side, nothing to say, it's Boss and it's tough. The battery case is easy to access (under the foot switch) and needs no screwdriver to open. Besides the pedal is delivered with a battery already in. And of course, there's a socket for an AC adaptor. To conclude, this Boss OS-2 is a very handy and affordable solution if your playing requires a wide range of saturation and you don't want to carry too many gears. But you might want to color the sound with other effects if you want something less ordinary. I would fully recommend it as a side-effect for it's large range of tweaking but less on it's own.

Send report Total features sound quality handling Excellent for the price 01.03.2015 The aim of this pedal is to work as either an overdrive or a distortion and cover the range of tones between the two. In my opinion it works best as a subtle overdrive and becomes less convincing the further it is pushed towards the distortion side of the spectrum. Build quality and durability are excellent though, as is the norm with Boss. Send report 52 text reviews in other languages available Rate product Standard Delivery Times. The pedal’s based on a design from veteran pedal builder Paul Cochrane that’s widely celebrated among high level pros, from first-call Nashville player Kenny Greenberg to first-call L.A. player Lyle Workman to rockstar Brad Whitford. When Paul decided to bring his pedal to a wider audience, he chose to work with the MXR design team. “It’s an honor to work with MXR,” Paul says. “My first ever pedal was a Phase 90.”The Clip switch provides three different clipping styles for a multitude of scenarios, whether you need a big, bold always-on sound with a ton of headroom to slam the front end of your amp, a more compressed and saturated sound for fat chords, or anything in between. The Bass and Treble controls offer further refinement in two key ways.

First, they’re cut-only, keeping your signal’s character intact while making it super easy to dial in a clean boost. Second, Paul wired the Bass control to affect your pre-OD signal so that you can your maintain low end at lower Gain settings and the Treble control to affect your post-OD signal so that you can adjust the top end to keep dirty settings smooth and musical. They chose the LF353, a component well-respected by Dunlop engineers for providing high output, high gain, and hi-fi signal delivery. The resulting MXR Timmy Overdrive is a professional-grade must-have for players who want sweet, harmonic breakup that responds to playing dynamics and maintains a rig’s personality at a fraction of the standard pedal size. Its distortion maintains the subtle nuances of single-coil guitar pickups. Products and names mentioned are the property of their respective owners.
