Bikenraider99 4.0 out of 5 stars This is a good basic overview of one of America's most produced and popular vehicles. This manual is nothing short of a bible when it comes to F-150's. Like all chilton manual's, the book is divided into chapter sections that cover specific vehicle systems. it covers a variety of set ups (straight 6, V8's, 2WD, 4WD). Some things are better explained than the others, but on the whole, this is an excellent book to work on your vehicle with. Pictures help with showing the reader and technician the parts and procedures in question. Again some things are better than others. On the whole I would recommend this bookIt covers '87-93 Mustangs and was an INVALUABLE resource when I had that car. In fact, I continue to reference it frequently when I'm doing work on my '87 Thunderbird, because it's based off the same chassis and many things are similar. I bought a Hayne's manual for my Thunderbird and I hated it, so I went back to the Chilton's for most reference. So, when I bought my '94 F-250 diesel, I figured a Chilton's would be a good investment. Boy was I wrong! For starters, my truck is a 7.3L IDI Turbo diesel, which was produced in '93 and '94. There is not even a MENTION of this engine in this book. From there it gets worse.

I can't believe the amount of detail that is nowhere to be found in this book. As another reviewer mentioned, this thing completely omits anything about the fuel filters on the IDI engines. Then, later on in the book, it skips over many other topics. It describes how to remove the instrument cluster, but doesn't specify which model year it's talking about, and includes several unnecessary steps while leaving out necessary ones (I removed mine with help from some folks on a message board). No instructions on how to remove the headlights or marker lights are present anywhere in this book.only how to change the headlight bulbs. The exploded assembly diagram for the 4WD front suspension is smaller than a 3x5 index card and it's impossible to make out any detail. Things like this should have at least half a page dedicated to them. And that's just what came across for things I've been trying to do on my truck so far. I don't even understand how you could produce a repair manual that was lacking this many important details.I would have been extremely disappointed If I had paid new book price. There are too many vehicles covered and none of them are covered very well.However I feel its a waste of money. I have tried looking up two issues that I have, one with fuel system and one with air bag sensors, and found no help from this book. This book covers way to many years, and types of trucks such as diesel trucks, fuel injected gas trucks, carburetor gas trucks, etc. You think your getting a thick book full of information about your truck, but half or more of the information will most likely not have anything to do with your vehicle. When you do find something that covers your vehicle, the information is vague and doesn't show enough step by step instruction on how to do. Most people using this book will need detailed instructions. If they know what they are doing, they would not need the book.

I wish I had never wasted my money on this item and as its wrapped in clear plastic, once you open it and find you don't like it, its then used and not returnable. Very disappointing item to me.Some diagrams are a bit small, but I think it's worth all of the information.Some of the photo's were lacking. Didn't compliment Chilton's good name. Michelle 3.0 out of 5 stars My first purchase was a failed Christmas gift that showed up 2 weeks late-- from a different seller-- that sent the wrong book--red cover, hand sketched F250 on the front, and only covered up to model year 1991 (Our truck is a 1996). When I opened this package from this seller, Clean Earth Books, I was worried because lo' and behold-- there was a red cover, hand sketched F250, but the model years covered were up to 1996.

Upon further investigation, the copyright date from my first purchase was from 1992, and this one was up to 1997. The earlier copyrights contain the same core material as the newer copyrights and at some point Haynes switched it completely to the blue cover with the actual vehicle photo. So don't be surprised if you order this and receive an older copy--but make sure your older copy, does, in fact, cover your vehicle. The copyright from 1997 is a chunkier catalog than the 1992--so you know information was added.Since purchasing the manuals a few months ago, I have only done basic maintenance.The layout seems more straightforward. Things are where I expect them to be, and I have an easier time finding what I'm looking for. The troubleshooting section at the beginning is a nice place to start. The explanations seem a little more straightforward and easier to understand for an amateur like myself. I'm glad I have both manuals, but I find myself using this one more often.Lacks needed details to identify parts needed for replacement parts purchases. I brought this book to upgrade my dash light system on a 1984 F250. I then needed to replace my radiator. This book failed to give ne needed information for both projects. I ended up using LMC Truck online catalog to view a detail schematic for the parts needed.The books do make it fairly easy to DIY cars.The books do make it fairly easy to DIY cars.ABS diagnostics and airbag codes aren't even mentioned. I planned to use this as a 'get dirty' shop reference so I could keep my factory manual and electronic versions clean. Half the pages of this book refer to engine rebuilding and tool selection.It's an out dated version. Last time I buy a old version thats used.very disappointed.I am not a mechanic in any stretch of the word, so I made sure the Bronco passed an inspection with my mechanic before I bought it.

It has ran great this last year, but I have had a few minor issues that are easy enough for a layman to fix, while still being complicated enough to need to know what the heck you are doing. That's where this book came in. It has very detailed information on all types of repairs from an easy tune-up, to an entire overhaul. I have already put this book to good use. Let's just hope I never need to use it for an overhaul:PThe unfortunate thing is that when the publication was updated in 2012 it contained less pages (mostly wiring diagrams). I only just found out about this after owning the book for 3 months, but checking the isbn number from the book i received to this listing shows they sent me the updated publication with 100 less pages:( If you do order this book, double check that you received the correct publication before opening it. The isbn should be listed on the barcode on the back cover. I tried ordering a 2nd one, used, and recieved completely the wrong the product. MikD 2.0 out of 5 stars I normally get Chilton books, but only Haynes was available for my 79 Bronco. This book is good for referencing parts you may need. But, is not of much use if you need to use it as a repair guidance manual. For work I needed to do, I ended up going to YouTube to find videos people have posted. I found it of little use in helping me so far with repairs I have needed to do.Sure it'll be helpful if you need to replace your brake pads or change your spark plugs and wires, but if you actually need to do something even remotely involved look elsewhere. This thing is very poorly organized, and will send you from one section to another only to end up at irrelevant information or to tell you to see a professional. I couldn't even figure out vacuum line routing with this crappy hunk of toilet paper.This manual is ok if you already have a basic working knowledge of vehicle maintenance. I bought another of these manuals (for my old Dodge) several years ago when I started working on trucks and it was utterly useless. I was hoping for better out of the Ford book and was disappointed.Instructions are easy to understand. Wish they were more specific on parts specs and breakdowns, esp electrical, but understand that is difficult when covering seven years of vehicles and different sub-models. Assembly manuals usually cover that end and are available on Amazon for many models. Worth it for the price to have in your garage or shop.

While it provides an adequate overview of the vehicles it tries to represent, it does not offer enough info to be useful to the more experienced do-it-yourselfer. The only info that seems to stand out as being particularly useful are the chassis electrical schematics in the back. This manual is fine as a (very) basic reference to keep in the glovebox; however, if you're looking to do something more involved than doing a tuneup or brakes, look for a set of factory service manuals.It had everything he needed in it to complete the job. Mechanical Genius Extrordinaire 4.0 out of 5 stars Hanes does the same thing. Ok for the basics, but advanced users need more info. The DIY book writers need to keep up with the user base and include more detailed info. This isn't the 1960s anymore.Tried using it, but consistently find I'm on the internet searching and finding better info. Not worth the money.I have VERY little experience with diesel engines, and this manual is a life saver when working on engine components. Plus, it is nice to have a ready reference for the more universal stuff to make sure I am headed in the right direction. Manuals are always useful tools.It is way too general, a lot of the information is inaccurate. The pages are printed on the cheapest paper you could print on. It would make great toilet paper in an outhouse. Whoever wrote this manual should stick to their day job. They're certainly not mechanics.Chilton used to publish the best DIY manuals on the market and in 2001 Haynes obtained the publishing rights. Guess that's why the manual is nothing more than a Haynes manual with a Chilton cover.Lots of information once you learn to navigate the awkward organization.This book is not extremely technical. I would recommend buying one for yourself or giving one as a gift.

The book has information applicable to my 2005 6.0 F250. Only con is that the pages are not as rugged as the trucks in which they describe. The newspaper thin sheets don't stand a chance against grimy work'n hands.Gives you insight on the complexity or ease of potential repairs and helps with diagnosing issues. They are pretty much identical with the Chilton book. Save up and buy the Ford shop manualI am 100 satisfied.This manual is pretty accurate, although I've read other reviewers say it's lacking some things. That said, I don't plan on doing any major overhauls but the more easier issues I plan to tackle myself. This book will definitely help. Some of the pictures (in black and white) can be hard to see but if you have a general idea then you should be able to figure things out. (And what you can't, well, YouTube is always your best friend!) They also include arrows that point to specific parts and bolts, etc. Again, a must-have for any Ford F-150 owner.It is a really great reference for any Do-it-yourselfers out there. Lots of illustrations and suggestions. I really like that it has arrows pointing to every nut, bolt or fastener that you need to remove in order to remove every mechanical component. Also has a list and picture of recommended tools to complete a specific job. For those of you who are familiar with Haynes and their products this will work great. For people like me who need a helping hand, this is a good addition to your library, but you'll need other materials as well.This has most of the information needed to do most any repair to your truck.

I have noticed some things that are incorrect or just not in this repair manual though. I am glad I doubled checked online for some repairs. OEM part numbers would also be a nice addition to these manuals.Again for what they cover. Recommended for those who want to go into deeper maintenance of your vehicle.There are almost no photos or diagrams of fixes for the newer models - the descriptions are vague and really only useful for someone who already knows the trucks inside and out. Too often the manual warns that if the user doesn't have a lot of experience fixing vehicles then maybe getting a journeyman mechanic do the job would be a better idea. Buying this manual was a waste of money - it's not a good howto manual.One example, in troubleshooting section, for no start doesn't even mention camshaft position sensors or crankshaft position sensor. I literally only use it to get the torque specs.Cant stand the feeling of the paper. Its similar to newspapers. I assumed it would be waxed since it's a shop manual. My bad for assuming. I have thousands of dollars of auto manuals and I know this happens, and the bean counter say it is easer to let it go through than to fix. Lesson learned. Never order their product again. If I can't open it before I purchase it not going to happen.
