It is also among the smallest in terms of size, which means you are saving both money and pedalboard real estate. But what sets it apart is its built-in Wah functionality that is inspired by vintage Crybaby style wah. There are two LED lights that indicate the mode of the pedal, whether it is on Wah or Volume pedal mode. But it's not just about getting a lot of return, because most owners are satisfied, if not impressed, by its overall performance and quality. Its simple volume pedal operation is appreciated by many, while there are also plenty of positive comments about its wah function. And more importantly, it does all of this while maintaining a compact profile that many find just right for their pedalboards. There are also a few reports of minor cosmetic issues. The tuner output removes your tuner from the signal chain, which can help to lessen your chains overall length.

This is a huge selling point for those who feel like your tuner has a negative effect on your tone. The pedal uses a Kevlar string and a spring, and the spring has been known to break (though the regularity with which this occurs hasn’t really been discussed). Odds are that it probably won’t happen to you, but it is something to be aware of. The pedal also doesn’t have an expression jack, so you can't use the unit as an expression pedal. The first setting allows for even reduction curve, great for basic volume adjustments. While the second setting gradually accelerates the reduction, ideal for volume swells and other fast volume change uses. There is also plenty of positive feedback regarding its taper switch, which makes applying dynamic effects easier. Those who own the pedal describe it as solid and well built. This means that it’s going to function best with a passive pickup. The minimum volume control allows you to dictate the lowest volume your volume pedal will achieve, and the torque control allows you to dictate the amount of force needed to use the pedal. Everything from the chassis down to the smallest components were built with gigging musicians in mind, so it’s not a piece of gear you’re going to have to worry about breaking down. Many also love how smooth it operates as you rock it back and forth. The tuner output allows you to use a tuner that, when disengaged, is removed from your signal chain. The torque control allows you to dictate the amount of force required to use the pedal. A key selling point of many Boss pedals is that they’re one of the few widely available (and affordable) pieces of gear that are capable of handling the stress of continuous use. And there are plenty of reviews that corroborate its durability and reliability, which gives guitarists one less pedal to worry about. Reviewers describe it as good and reliable pedal that works as intended without hogging too much precious pedalboard space.

There are also a few who are not happy with the ratio by which volume swells up. The second mode in particular is great for volume swells. It also impresses many users with its transparency, it doesn't affect tone. The taper adjustment is also well received, which allows for more control over the pedal's volume curve. So if you’re looking to use the unit as an expression pedal you’re going to want to pick up a TRS cable (though keep in mind this still won’t work as well as a dedicated expression pedal). This pedal also uses a cord to control pedal movement, a design which some feel makes it less durable that it should be, but this is a minority opinion. The Lehle uses a power adapter as opposed to a battery. And this leads to another interesting function, you can actually use it to boost gain, allowing the unit to function as both a clean boost and a volume pedal. This design also allows the Lehle Mono to function quietly. There are also many who use it as a clean boost for driving tube amps to great effect. If there is an impedance mismatch, it can cause tone loss. Guitars that do have a black panel on either the back or side which, if popped open, reveals a battery enclosure. Active volume pedals, like active pickups, use an external power source. Passive volume pedals control a signal's volume like a guitar’s volume switch, while an active volume pedal controls volume with more fidelity. You have more options with what an active volume pedal can achieve, though the extra expense may not be worth it if you aren’t going to take advantage of the extra features. Basically, expression controls a parameter of an effect while a volume pedal controls volume. Expression includes things like increasing a delay’s repeats, or a chorus pedal’s depth. However, should you choose to go this route you do need a passive volume pedal as opposed to an active one. There are also volume pedals which double as expression pedals. Strymon has a helpful guide on this topic.

www.comycevalencia.com/galeria/files/canon-1d-mark-iin-manual.pdf

Some musicians prefer to have a volume pedal first in their chain (or second if they’re using a compressor), and others want it last. Basically, when a volume pedal is first in the chain it acts like your guitar’s volume; controlling the amount of gain that comes through. When placed last, a volume pedal controls the overall volume as opposed to gain. A higher signal going into a distortion pedal (which already boosts the signal) will create more distortion. If used after all of your effects, it will boost the entire signal chain. So, as you turn up the minimum volume control the lowest setting of the pedal becomes louder. Likewise, as you turn the minimum volume control down the lowest setting of the pedal becomes quieter. The current edition was published on June 2, 2020 written by Alexander Briones with contributions from Mason Hoberg. Note that while there have been a small number of new budget volume pedals released since we last updated this guide, unfortunately none of them had high enough ratings to make the cut. For this update, we ended up with over 4,300 sources, all of which were processed with the Gearank Algorithm to produce the customer satisfaction ratings out of 100 that we call Gearank ratings. These scores were then used to make the final selection of the best volume pedals which you see above. For more information about our methods see How Gearank Works.Allowed HTML tags: Lines and paragraphs break automatically. Plain text No HTML tags allowed. I have read everything on Wiki and the message boards (the new and setbb) and I am pulling my hair out. Can anyone help me? Did I buy the wrong expression pedal? I just returned with the TRS cable and it still doesn't work.Getting the TRS cable though was a major help, so you can't be too far off at this point. I have an FV500H which I believe functions the same for expression pedal use and it's a great pedal and works great with the AxeFx. What brand of cable is it? (just in case there's something quirky about it). Also how do you have the pedal assigned in the AxeFx? Chris I'm not sure how I have it assigned. I hate to be so naive, but the FA manual and all other info I can find is not very specific. I would appreciate any help getting started using the expression pedal. Maybe I'm not assigning it correctly, but I can't find any specific instructions.I am desperately looking for info to walk me through setting this up. At this point I'm not sure if I am not setting it up correctly or if I don't have it hooked up correctly?? Please help! Thanks!! I will pay for the help. And it is probably a simple learning curve and ignorance on my part, but I still have not gotten it to work (I have a brand new Boss FV-500H - running through a midimate). Not relevant where the pedals are being plugged straight into the AxeFx. Change the source (at top) to 'Extrn 1'. This varies between different pedals and the target piece of equipment they're being connected to. e.g. if using a stereo cable and the expression input on the FV500, the FV500 Midimate does need this change, but FV500 AxeFx can be wired normally.

Some other pedals are the opposite and will work ok without modification into the Midimate, but need the swap done on one end to play happily with the Axe. However, WAIT until I post back before breaking out the soldering iron!!! We should still be able to get something happening as is (it just won't seem to give a full range of motion) so we'll try to run it this way and check everything else is in order before I start handing out advice about chopping up your new cable. Let me know which mode (e.g. controller mode) you run the MidiMate in. Not sure this makes a difference, I've only ever run mine in controller mode though. Chris I have heard two stories on using the soldering iron. So, it would be nice to get a definitive answer. But either way, I should be able to set it up for starters direct with the AXE FX with your instructions to Satellite, right. So I may try that tonight just to see how if functions. But will really appreciate if I can get it to work with the Midi Mate. And ultimately, I am on the list for the Fractal version when it is available. Thanks! -richard The MidiMate only needs a few button pushes to get it to work, just not very intuitive so I always forget. I actually need to setup a few new patches in controller mode on my MidiMate (tried to do this just before a gig the other day without success) so it's timely for me to reaquaint myself with how this works. As a starting point with the MidiMate the FV500 should still be functional with the current cable, although with odd behaviour. Once any configuration is done, this will at least allow you to check that it works before breaking out the pliers and soldering iron. Chris So I will try tomorrow. I can tell from your instuctions, that I was not doing correctly. I cant wait to try per your instructions.I actually have a new pedal I need to calibrate so I'll run this process myself in the morning (my time!) and let you know if I've got this wrong. Chris Sorry about that!

Apart from that the process seems to work ok - I just set up a new pedal on this today and seems to work well. Midimate - still haven't gotten to this yet (too much real work yesterday). Stay tuned. Chris I did get it to work direct with the AXE FX, but I far prefer to have the expression pedal direct to the midi mate, so I do not need two chords on the floor back to the Axe FX. Staying tuned, and thanks. richard I did have a quick look at this the other day, haven't gotten around to documenting the whole process though. If this happens you're almost done. If the stereo cable is around the wrong way (see previous messages) you'll get some funny results, but you'll still see the value change. Change this to the Control Change number used above (in my case, 1) (then, as with previous message). - Add a volume block to one of your patches. - Press Edit on the volume block. - With the Volume control highlighted, press Enter. - This should put you into the Modifier screen. Change the source (at top) to 'Extrn 1'. - Move the pedal. If I've explained this all ok (?) then the little ball on the graph should move as you move the pedal. Also good if the volume level changes at the same time See how you go anyway and let me know. I have meant to document this fully for a while so sorry for the delay. It's a fairly common question and not that intuitive from the Rocktron side so hopefully I'll get around to doing this soon. Chris I will let you know. Thanks again, -richard I am so jazzed. We are not affiliated with Clavia! I really like the build quality and sturdiness of the pedal.

What really annoys me though is that the pedal is non-responsive at both the start and the end of it's range. So when I begin to press the pedal down, it's impossible for me to know when the pedal is starting to take action. And the same applies also in the opposite direction. Anyone else with the same problem. I am considering returning it to the store and getting an FC7 instead. Ironically it's even cheaper. Is there an adjustment pot on the side of that Boss pedal? Pablo Makes sure it's on its minimum setting to start with. Also, make sure the Stage is set to use a Roland pedal. Finally, are you using a TRS (stereo) jack-to-jack lead to connect it. An ordinary TS (mono) lead won't work properly, if at all. I have used the FV-500L myself and I can confirm that it will work properly with the Stage classic. However, I have recently switched to the Yamaha FC7 and in my opinion, it's a better pedal than the Boss as it has a much longer range of travel and makes adjusting the volume precisely much easier. It's probably about as sturdy as the Boss. The minimum volume knob (I guess that's what you meant) is on the minimum value, but it doesn't affect the range of the pedal, just the minimum value. So it should'nt affect the point where the pedal reaches 0. Nevertheless, I have tested this with different values on the knob and no effect on the matter. The pedal reaches 0 before I have pressed the pedal all the way down (and 100 before I've pressed it all the way up). I have set it as a Roland pedal and I'm using a TRS cable. I'm going to test the functionality with another Stage Classic in a few hours, and if it's still not working then I will return it and get the FC7. Edit: Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. Not great ( no response at the beginning and end of the course - honestly a big disappointment), heavy, cumbersome.Seems to me that this is a hardware problem in the pedal. The Boss owner sheet states that the design is based on the EV5.

I am using a basic stereo jack-to-jack cable which the store merchant gave me and it should be properly connected (EXP to Control Pedal). I tested the pedal with another Stage also and had the same problem, so I went back to the store and they sent the pedal back to Roland for maintenance. I will get it back on Thursday and hopefully it will work properly then. I will report here when I receive the pedal. Apparently they didn't have the required parts so they decided to send me a whole new pedal. I thought everything was going to be allright, but when I plugged in the pedal, I encountered the exact same issue as before. I'm getting really frustrated with this. Are you guys absolutely certain that the FV-500L is compatible with Stage Classic. It seems unlikely that I would have run into two broken pedals straight from the store. Employing COSM-modeling technology, the RT-20 authentically reproduces classic rotary-speaker sounds. It offers adjustable Rise Time, Horn and Bass speed, Overdrive, and more. And not just for classic twirl, the RT-20 can be used to create unique overdrive and pulsating effects as well. This pedal sounds amazing, and offers a stunning graphical view of the virtual rotors on its built-in display. Roland’s breakthrough Composite Object Sound Modeling (COSM) uses the advantages of multiple modeling methods, and succeeds in accurately emulating existing sounds as well as producing sounds that have never before been created. With the RT-20, COSM is used to simulate classic rotary characteristics, and beyond. The virtual horn and bass speaker can be independently adjusted, while the RT-20’s unique graphic display provides a realtime view of the rotation pattern and speed. Surround your listeners in animated sound with the RT-20’s dual outputs, which enable true stereo effects. The RT-20’s phone jack is handy for private practice and experimentation.
